Tips From a Pressure Washing Company in Cape Coral Florida

First thing to keep in mind when pressure washing is making sure you have the right equipment and water pressure to the pressure washer. Depending on what size pressure washer you are using, most household pressure washers can hook up to water on the house. Good thing to keep in mind is that on average, a typical home in Cape Coral has between 30 psi and 60 psi water pressure. Also, usually producing around 3-4 gallons per minute. 

Assuming you have the right pressure washer, next thing to learn is what tips you should use on the end of your wand. Most common 5 tips are black tip (65 tip wash down), yellow tip (15 tip), green tip (25 tip), white tip (40 tip) and red tip (0 tip). 

Starting with the black tip, this is used to rinse down dirt, debris, etc. Most of the time this tip is used after the pressure cleaning is done to rinse off loose debris on walls, sidewalks, etc. I like to think of this tip as the water broom in the sense that it is only used to clean up remaining loose debris. This tip does not produce enough power to damage anything such as screens, plants, stucco, etc.  This tip is also great for simply just watering plants or even adding a solution downstream (most time soap or chlorine) from the pump. 

The yellow tip is a slightly wider stripping tip. Like the red tip, just slightly less powerful. This is good for removing loose paint, gum, oil, etc. You do not want to use this tip on stucco walls as it will more than likely rip the paint off the walls. Also, you do not want to use this tip around screens as it will cause rips. This tip is for very high-pressure cleanings only. Recommended surfaces to use on include unpainted concrete, pavers, etc.

The green tip is a slightly less powerful but wider range than the yellow tip. For example, let’s say the yellow tip cleans about a 2-inch ride strip compared to the green tip which is about double that (4 inches). This tip is also good for concrete, pavers, etc. However, it is not recommended on painted surfaces or around screens. This tip may not be as powerful as the yellow, so this could be better used on pulling up gum per-say rather than yellow tip, as yellow tip can engrave into the surface whereas green tip is more likely not. 

The white tip is great for blowing off large areas after cleaning such as a driveway cleaning. This produces about an 8-inch cleaning strip however it is still powerful enough to clean dirt and debris off of surfaces that were left behind by a surface cleaner. This tip is also okay to use around screens and paint in most cases but would not recommend getting closer than 6 inches from targeted area. 

The red tip is known as the stripping/blasting tip. This tip has enough power to cut through wood, flesh, paint and just about every other material. This is primarily used for stripping the hardest of epoxy’s, paints, etc. This tip is actually so powerful and can cause a lot of damage that we don’t hardly ever use it on any of our jobs whether it be regular pressure washing or stripping coatings. 

After giving you a little education on what tips should be used on what surfaces, you should have a clearer mind as to which tips to use for which jobs. However, when it comes to pressure washing, it is always best to clean with the least amount of pressure. Whether you are cleaning a driveway or walls on the exterior of a house, each time you clean either you will always be removing part of the surface even if it’s not visible to eye thus making the surface more pores which will cause paint to fail, concrete to get dirtier quicker, roof tiles to become quickly molded, etc. Just about all of our cleanings, we try to use low pressure to clean surfaces. How do we do that you may ask? We use watered down chlorine. This helps to loosen up dirt, mold, algae, etc. This allows us to clean with low pressures which in return saves the surface from breaking down and becoming pores. This will overall save the life of you pavers, roofs, etc. and will retain it’s original surface.
