We are doing an epoxy floor you always want to place epoxy on bare concrete. you’ll always want to clean beforehand and or grind depending on concrete shape. Few other things are you always want to use some blue painters’ tape around anything you do not want epoxy on. so, let’s dive in it!
Before starting epoxy, you’ll want to determine if you’ll need to grind floor or is it ok to lay epoxy on. good way in determining this is the water test. but before we get into that let’s start with the obvious first if there is paint already down you will need to grind. if not, then this is where the water test comes in play, poor some water on concrete if it soaks some water up your good to go if it beads on top you will need to grind. now if you need to grind you will start with that if not then you will start by taking muriatic acid and water and mixing 50 % ratio then begin applying to concrete let sit for 5 to 10 mins this will burn the concrete and help open up the pores. after that begin rise off.
Before painting the Epoxy down, you will need to make sure concrete is 100% dry. after you have determined its dry begin paint first coat. be sure to apply not super think, do not try to garage floor with one think coat. After about a hr. you can begin applying 2nd coat and add flakes at this time. Once done you will need to weight 24hrs after that you can begin applying clear coat. once clear coated you need to give it 72hrs to dry before driving on it.
